When used as directed, it is safe for all breeds of dogs, including stud dogs, breeding female dogs, and puppies 6 weeks of age and older. HeartGard Plus Chewables may be safely administered to dogs of positive, negative, or unknown heartworm status.
How does it work?
HeartGard Plus contains two active ingredients: ivermectin and pyrantel. These powerful ingredients acts on parasites by causing spastic muscle paralysis. They control the way nerve impulses flow through the neurological system of the worm, which causes the parasite to become paralysed and eventually die.
It should be noted that HeartGard Plus Chewables are only effective as a preventative for heartworm infection. You must first diagnose your dog for heartworm infection before administering any heartworm prevention product. If your dog has already been infected with heartworm, you should consult your veterinarian.
